Okay, I am so laughing! I love this group of friends! Sally, you are priceless. For my blog at my website, I shared a bit about Writing From the Heart and what we do there. Highlights workshops are not well known in the west, in fact at every conference I go to, I get tons of questions.
If you want to, please comment on the blog or at my website about how the foundation workshops have helped you. I want to help bring visibility to Writing from the Heart and other Highlights opportunities. Thanks everyone, and lots of love!
Keep Writing, you’re all so fabulous!

We shared some great fun, didn't we? I miss each and every one of you. Next week I'll be in Oceanside, OR at the Oregon Coast Children's Writers Workshop--a beautiful location, plenty of editors/teachers/agents to learn from but...none of you, darn it!
ReplyDeleteI don't know about anyone else, but I'm still playing "catch up" on all of the tasks in my normal routine, including (and especially) writing--no doubt because I've been traveling too much. (Mike and I visited a friend in Denver for a couple of days shortly after our retreat.) I'll be staying put for quite a while after Oregon, though. That should allow me to decompress, and...just keep writing, writing, writing (as Dory the fish would sing, if she were an author).
Blessings and big hugs,
Geri
P.S. Many thanks, Pat, for the photos and everything on this website.
Hi Everybody! I just love your photos, Pat! Wow - what a fabulous journey through our retreat - they've gotten me homesick for you all and for Boyds Mills.
ReplyDeleteI'm supposed to be on-line paying bills. ha ha ha ha ha - so much for attending real life. I hear you, too, Geri - too many unmatched socks and dirty dishes to do much writing.
xo Hope you guys have a great weekend - I'm off to my class reunion. Old boyfriend will be there, so I went to Victoria's Secret today and bought a miracle bra.
Love you guys!
-Sally
Sally, you crack me up.
ReplyDeleteLori, two things: first, I'm touting the Highlights Foundation Workshops in the Austin SCBWI newsletter; I hope that will get more folks interested and attending them. Second, any chance that I can see you when I pass through Portland???
Love to all,
Geri
Hi guys! I miss you all and my cabin too!
ReplyDeleteI sub'd a short story, so keep your fingers crossed for me ;-)
I also have an article in the works. It's about the Finlandish Frozen Fish Stick Fiesta. I skewed it towards boys who, as everyone knows, are great fish stick aficionados. Shoe in for publication, don't you think? HA!
Oh, and I have been working on finishing my book...guess I brought more than PA mud home with me. I also came away with alot of writing energy. Much of it generated by all of you! How cool is that?
Hugs!!
Judy
Oh, and Sally, let me know how that 'miracle' works out...I could use one too...
Hi Everyone! I miss you all!
ReplyDeletePat, you've done a fantastic job in creating the blog. It's a wonderful way to stay in touch. Thanks!
It's back to reality for all of us, so I thought I would share with you what I shared with Lori before I left the retreat. It was my Morning Pages entry on 6/27.
"It is the last day of my writer's retreat. I came to get back to my writing. But I really didn't do too much writing. Instead I simply discovered my inner child. I played. Laughed with my friends, ate meals prepared for me. The only rule I gave myself was "make your bed."
I watched a fat groundhog lumber across the grass. Scared away two deer outside my cabin door. Was followed by orange butterflies. Went for a walk by a stream. Had bedtime stories read to me by Suzanne Bloom. Visited a friend. Ate dessert every night. I saw unusual birds. Braved a storm. Learned from two kind and insightful teachers. "Uncle" Kent even came to visit.
Today I want to capture the playfulness in a bottle. It will be my playfulness genie. And when I can't jump off my cliff with childlike abandon, I will take that little bottle, decorated with polka dots and stripes -- and of course -- sparkles, uncap it and let the joy begin!
I have to go. My friend Kathleen is going down to the main house for breakfast, walking through the woods, beating her drum."
On the following Monday, I created my genie bottle. It sits on the windowsill by my kitchen table where I write.

Hi Everyone,
ReplyDeleteI hope this works now that I have a Google e-mail account. I was not able to send anything before. I miss you all, and I really miss the quiet and inspiration of being in Pennsylvania. I've just gotten back to writing more regularly this week (work was overwhelming with the summer reading program when I first got back--and then there was the ALA conference). Now when I write, I imagine all of you writing, too, even though our "cabins" are now so far from each other.
Sally--can you please send me your e-mail? I owe you a picture!
Take care everyone,
Natalie
I like your image of thinking of us in our cabins. I took a picture of our cabins at night with the lights on--it was so inspirational to know folks weren't schmoozing on the phone, watching TV, making dinner, or playing with their kids. THEY WERE ALL STRUGGLING TO WRITE LIKE I WAS!
ReplyDeleteHi guys
ReplyDeleteHope everyone is doing great and writing like crazy!
I just wanted to say that I loved Joyce’s idea of having her ‘genie’ to keep her company and motivated. Also Natalie’s thought that our cabins are still a reality…just farther apart!
I’ve got pics from our week together randomly scrolling on my computer screen, (thanks Stephanie and Pat!), and those shots really have helped me FOCUS ;-)
Hugs to all!
Judy ;-)
