Guest Author: From Harry

Hi Friends,

I have a bit of news and a question for you Red Rover Writers. First, my juvenile biography of Richard Feynman, a quirky physicist, is (finally) coming out this fall from Morgan-Reynolds, an educational publisher in Greensboro, NC. Its for middle school/early high school. I’ve seen the layout and they’ve done a good job with pictures and color. More when I am actually holding a copy in my hands. Its going to the printers next week.

Question: I want to submit a manuscript I had worked on at the retreat with Kim Griswell, and I wanted to send it to her. However, I seem to remember that she was retiring or moving away from PA and therefore wouldn’t be appropriate to submit to.

What is your recollection – or maybe its stronger than that?

Hope you are getting plenty of time to write, Harry

Well, Highlights ended up not using the piece, I worked on at the workshop, but at least it got looked at.

The Feynman biography is now out in print ["The Great Explainer: The Story of Richard P. Feynman", Morgan-Reynolds Publishing, Greensboro, NC, c. 2010]. The publisher changed the title from what I had originally and cut the length, but no major harm done. They added lots of nice previously unpublished pictures which really help the story.

My manuscript for a non-technical reference book MEDICAL IMAGING turned in in October is now in production at ABC-CLIO/Greenwood. I had orginally queried this as a juvenile book but Greenwood said they were no longer doing books for children and I ended up with a 200+ page book for the general public.

My next project is to find an agent to get into adult trade publishing (although would also like them to do juvenile)in order to maximize the return on the time and effort on research.

How are you all doing with your writing?

Happy Turkey Day! I bet the farm is beautiful this time of year.

  2. Hi Harry

Glad to hear your writing is going well. Unfortunately, I don't know where Kim is at. Hope you hear from her.
